It can be very tempting starting out to just work with anyone on any project. Just so you can say you have an actual client. Resist resist resist.

The most helpful thing I did long term for my business when I started out was to work out who I wanted to work with.

I asked myself a few simple questions and now want to share that with you.


From this exercise I got a clearer idea as to who my ideal client was. This helped in a couple of ways:

1. I could be really clear when i was talking to a potential client or someone in my network what exactly i was offering. And the clearer you are in your own head the more compelling it will be when you say it out loud. You’ll also be prepared for serendipitous meetings.

2. When you know who your client is you can start figuring out how and where to find them.
